Wonder of wonders…she realizes she can ‘see” the scents coming from the roses and other items in the room.Īnd when the doctor and nurses arrived with the policeman on the case, Eun Seol screams in fear and confusion as she struggles with them. All she knows is there is one major thing about herself she’s discovered.Įun Seol wakes up in a huge hospital room and suddenly everything seems to come at her in high sensory definition. She wakes up from a coma six months later and now can’t remember zilch. Now we possibly know the story of how things evolved to this point, years later when Choi Eun Seol gets out of hospital. Looks like the killer got the wrong girl but doesn’t know. Because Moo Gak’s sister’s name also happens to be Choi Eun Seol.īy some twist of tragedy and fate, we find two school girls sharing the same name, both involved in a car accident that takes them to different hospitals. Okay so we now know it’s the same person – and he’s come to finish the job. The doctor is wearing the same shoes as the killer from the house. But by the time he gets to his sister’s room he finds her dead.īefore he reaches his sister’s room we see Moo Gak brushing past a blood-stained doctor coming from right inside. She tells her brother she’s hungry so he arrives at the hospital where she’s been taken, toting a bag of takeaway. Just waiting for the ambulance to get her seen to. She’s been in some kind of accident but is mostly unharmed. He’s in a wetsuit after swimming and gets a call from his sister. This time we find Yoo Chun who plays Moo Gak. The drama continues in its dark twisted path. She can ‘see’ scents – while he’s lost the ability to feel pain while conscious. Now he knows her name in case he needs to find her. The one he’d ripped off her during the struggle. The last image we’re left with is the killer holding her name tag. As other people start to arrive he steals away leaving her staring after him. The last she sees of him is as she lies on the hard asphalt, drops of rain suddenly falling as he watches from the shadows. The killer comes chasing Eun Seol into a speeding car and she’s slammed to the ground. She manages to escape and runs outside on the street. There’s a pot still bubbling on the stove while the bodies of her parents are seen lying on the ground.Ī struggle ensues between Choi Eun Seol and the killer. She returns home from school one night to find an intruder in her home. A young school girl named Choi Eun Seol is a witness to an unspeakable crime. The drama series starts out pretty dark and grisly. " The Girl Who Sees Smells" is directed by Baek Soo-chan, written by Lee Hee-myeong and features Park Yoo-chun, Shin Se-kyung, Namkoong Min, Yoon Jin-seo, Kim So-hyun, Choi Tae-joon, and more. The Girl Who Sees Smells – Park Yoo-chun and Shin Se-kyung – Episode One In any event, my current appraisal has gone from "bad" to "lukewarm", so take from that what you will. It shouldn't even be that hard, really, because Moo-gak could very plausibly claim that he deduced the likely location of the car because there surely must have been some sort of evidence on the hill. I do hope, though, that we're not going to make a huge plot point out of the importance of keeping Cho-rim's abilities a secret. The weaknesses in " The Girl Who Sees Smells" are mostly evened out by the end by a decently interesting mystery. Although aside from Moo-gak's challenges it's hard to see how this plot point could ever be relevant. Also, it's confirmed this episode that Cho-rim really does literally see smells- this isn't just an editing trick that's being used because monitors can only project images and sound. The visuals are nice enough- although with a concept like a girl who can see smells, it would be difficult to make that look visually boring. And Moo-gak, for his part, is a very grumpy man who refuses to be amused by Cho-rim's antics just on general principle. Cho-rim is the upbeat, forward woman who's so confident that she can achieve any challenge Moo-gak can give her. Being unfunny in a funny way is a really difficult skill to master, and one that necessitates the skills of a serious comedian.Īnd to date, so far Shin Se-kyung and Park Yoo-chun have only really demonstrated much skill in the "looks cute" department. I'm honestly unsure whether the actors are actually this bad at doing comedy, or whether they're just confused because of the way director Baek Soo-chan keeps telling them to try to be funny one scene and to try not to be funny the next. And what really makes this issue confusing is that it appears to be a plot point that Cho-rim and Moo-gak aren't actually funny. The lack of real humor is a bigger problem.
